To OSIPP’s English Homepage

Welcome to the homepage of Robert D. Eldridge, Ph.D., Associate Professor here at the School of International Public Policy, Osaka University (OSIPP) and Director, U.S.-Japan Alliance Affairs Division, Center for International Security Studies and Policy, or CISSP. My area of expertise is Japanese Political and Diplomatic History and my research interests include U.S.-Japan Relations, Japanese Security Policy, and Postwar Okinawa. Before joining the faculty of OSIPP in July 2001, I was a Research Fellow at the Suntory Foundation in Osaka and later at the Research Institute for Peace and Security in Tokyo. Most recently, I had the opportunity to participate in a unique and stimulating one-year sabbatical (from September 2004 to August 2005) at the headquarters of U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific, located at Camp Smith in Hawaii. (To U.S. Marine friends reading this, Semper Fi.)

This homepage was created to provide timely information for my students, colleagues, and friends both here in Japan and abroad. Some of the information found in the following pages appear in Japanese; where possible I have provided English-language translations or related, helpful links. I hope you find it useful.

Notes, Office Hours, and Latest News:

If not away on a trip, I am generally in my office everyday. Please make an appointment by e-mail (eldridge@osipp.osaka-u.ac.jp) prior to visiting in order to ensure that I will be here and available. Information on getting to OSIPP can be found at the bottom of this page. Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you.
